Baba Blues is a place to call home. We started off with the mission to create a place with live music in Singapore, but looking at how many have tried and failed, we realise music alone won’t keep the passion going. There are music cafes and pubs in town, but we want to create a uniquely Singaporean experience for our friends. If we are to support the local music scene, we might as well do it in our local style.

Seriously, when it comes to food, we Singaporeans are spoilt for choice. We walked around the shophouses in town and malls, looking for a place to set up this humble restaurant and pub of ours, and discovered that there’s something not quite right with our food culture. Of the many new restaurants and cafes sprouting up – Korean, Japanese, Western, Vietnamese, Hong Kong, Chinese – where’s ours? I mean, yeah, we love to try something different and experience a different culture through food like ramen, steaks, burgers, pizzas, Kimchi and BBQs/Steamboats, HK thick toast and instant noodles. The sad part is, hardly anything is recognisable as something Singaporean! So, we decided to celebrate a unique part of our Singapore’s food culture – Peranakan! Peranakan is the oldest fusion food that we know without even realising it. A combination of Chinese and Malay ingredients and cooking methods that have spurred time-tested favorites – spicy, savory, aromatic and mouth-watering dishes.

So the idea is simple, really. Good food, and good music. Come for the music, try the food. Come for the food, enjoy the music. Whatever it may be, just come lah!
